Cuba Dominates Greco-Roman Wrestling in Santiago 2023 Sports Games

Cuba’s Greco-Roman wrestlers won four gold medals this Saturday, out of four disputed, during the Santiago 2023 sports games, and with this they added eight titles and displaced the United States wrestling team from the lead.

Daniel Gregorich (87 kg) beat Venezuelan Luis Avendaño 5-1, while Gabriel Rosillo (97) beat Venezuelan Luillys Pérez 9-1.

For his part, the Olympic and world champion Luis Orta (67) beat the Colombian Julián Horta by technical superiority (10-1), while Oscar Pino (130) beat the American Cohlton Schultz 6-0.

In previous days, other Cuban wrestlers had already won four titles: Yurieski Torreblanca (86 kg), Alejandro Valdés (75 kg), Yusneylis Guzmán (50 kg) and Milaimys de la Caridad Marín (76).

Thanks to that performance, Cuba concluded with eight titles, five silver medals and three bronze medals. Places two and three corresponded to the USA (7-3-1) and Brazil (2-1-1).

In another day of intense emotions, this Saturday the Chilean karatekas Valentina Toro (-55 kg) and Rodrigo Rojas (+84 kg). Toro defeated the Cuban Baurelys Torres in a convincing manner, 8-0, while Rojas defeated the Brazilian Lucas Fernandes 2-1.

Likewise, Venezuelan fans celebrated the triumph of their karate fighter Yorgelis Salazar, who was crowned champion of the -50 kg category following defeating Yamina Lahyanssa, representative of Canada, 5-0.
