Pittsburgh, PA – The Chicago Cubs bolstered their pitching staff on Monday by reinstating Right-Hander Michael Soroka from the 15-day injured list prior to their contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Soroka delivered two innings of relief in the Cubs’ 4-0 win.

Soroka’s Return and Role Change

Initially acquired from the Washington Nationals with expectations of being a starting pitcher, Soroka’s role has shifted due to a recent injury. He made his debut with the Cubs on August 4th against the Cincinnati Reds, though, exited the game after only two innings with a right shoulder strain. following a successful rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa-where he conceded just one run across 2.3 innings-Soroka is now slated to contribute from the bullpen.

Roster Adjustments and Player Updates

To make room for Soroka’s return, Right-Hander Ben Brown was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Brown has appeared in 25 games for the Cubs this season, making 15 starts, and currently holds a 5-8 record with a 5.92 ERA.

Several other player updates were reported. Cubs closer Daniel Palencia resumed throwing off the mound for the first time as being placed on the injured list September 8th with a right shoulder strain. palencia has successfully converted 22 of 25 save opportunities this season and maintains a 3.00 ERA in 52 games.

Designated hitter Seiya Suzuki was held out of Monday’s lineup due to bronchitis. Catcher miguel Amaya has commenced a rehab assignment with Iowa, recovering from both a left ankle sprain (as August 14th) and a previously sustained strained oblique. He has seen limited action recently, appearing in only one major league game since May 25th.
