Jaipur: The curfew imposed in Rajasthan’s Karauli city on Saturday evening continued following communal clashes. The clashes erupted when a stone was hurled at a mosque during a rally by Hindutva groups on Saturday evening in connection with the Hindu New Year celebrations. District Collector Rajendra Singh Shekhawat has imposed a curfew in the city till April 4, amid clashes between people and destruction of private and public property.
More than 35 shops and more than two dozen vehicles have been looted and destroyed in the communal clashes. Authorities have deployed more than 600 troops to maintain peace in the city. Police said they have set up 15 points in the city and no clashes have been reported in Karauli so far due to regular flag marches. Internet services have been suspended in the district.
Chief Minister Ashok Gellot has accused the BJP of being behind the communal clashes in Karauli. He added that they were trying to divide the society on religious grounds and that the BJP’s objectives would not be achieved in the state.
