Manama: Two Bangladeshi youths have been sentenced to three years in jail for extorting 1500 dinars from a native woman through cyber fraud. The crime in question took place in November last year. The accused called the woman on the phone introducing themselves as bank employees. The accused sent a link to the woman’s phone asking her to update her personal details in the bank account. The young woman opened the link and provided information including CPR and mobile number.

The fraud was soon discovered when 1500 dinars were lost from the account. Then a complaint was filed and the accused were arrested during the police investigation. The High Criminal Court has awarded a fine of 1000 dinars each to the accused. After serving the sentence, the accused will be deported.
