Cycling Industries Europe Marks Successful Year, Announces Leadership Transition

Cycling Industries Europe (CIE) is celebrating a year of remarkable accomplishments, including the adoption of the EU Declaration on Cycling and the recognition of the cycling industry in the Mobility Transition Pathway. These achievements, along with the confirmation of billions of euros flowing into cycling infrastructure across Europe, solidify CIE’s influential role in shaping the future of cycling.

Looking Ahead: New Initiatives and Expert Groups

Building on this momentum, CIE has embarked on several exciting new endeavors. A newly formed expert group is focused on bicycle leasing, while CIE has formalized its leadership role within the Women in Cycling network, establishing a dedicated CIE expert group committed to advancing women’s roles in the industry.

“If you’re passionate about cycling and want to contribute to these initiatives, we encourage you to join one of our expert groups,” said a representative, inviting interested individuals to email [email protected] to become a CIE member.

Further expanding its reach, CIE will participate in two new EU-funded consortia starting in January, showcasing the industry’s strengths to government and academic partners.

Leadership Transition and Future Plans

“I want to express my sincere gratitude to our dedicated staff team, led by CEO Kevin Mayne, for their outstanding contributions to these successes,” said CIE President Tony Grimaldi. “The board deeply appreciates their expertise and professionalism.”

Grimaldi went on to announce the upcoming retirement of CEO Kevin Mayne at the end of the year, outlining the organization’s leadership transition plan. “At short notice, our chosen successor for the CEO position informed us that they would be unable to take on the role due to unforeseen family circumstances. We respect this decision and wish them well. We will immediately relaunch our search for a new CEO, aiming to have someone in place by the second quarter of 2025. We are confident that CIE’s success and visibility will attract top-tier candidates.”

In the interim, the CIE board has expressed full confidence in the Brussels-based staff team. To further strengthen its capacity, CIE will be appointing two new staff members in early 2025, alongside the recruitment of a new CEO. Interested individuals are encouraged to keep an eye on CIE’s website for upcoming vacancies: www.cyclingindustries.com .

An Executive Committee Takes the Wheel

The CIE Board has also appointed an executive committee to oversee the organization’s agenda during this transition. The committee will consist of President Tony Grimaldi (Cycleurope), Raymond Gense (PON) as Vice-President, and Malcolm Davies (Trek). This team will work closely with the staff team and expert groups to advance CIE’s agenda and welcome the incoming CEO when appointed.
