Chennai: A public holiday has been declared in four districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday as heavy rains continue as a result of Cyclone Mishong. A holiday has been declared in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and Chengalpet districts. The chief secretary’s circular states that educational institutions and government offices should not function.

The government has asked private institutions in all four districts to allow employees to work from home. Educational institutions in two districts of Andhra Pradesh have been declared holiday on Monday and Tuesday. Holiday in NTR and Krishna districts.

Chennai airport will remain closed till 11 pm on Monday, airport officials said. Earlier it was closed for two hours. Suburban trains have also been temporarily suspended.

The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of isolated heavy rains and very intense rains in the northern coastal areas of Tamil Nadu. There is rain warning in Puducherry and Karakal too.

Governor A.N. said that central and state government agencies are working to ensure the safety of people in areas where heavy rains continue. Ravi informed. He requested that the government is monitoring the situation and people should stay safely in their homes.
