D1B: The Union offers the derby and takes its revenge on the RWDM

Without supporters, this derby between the Union Saint-Gilloise and the RWDM had less flavor than hoped but behind closed doors requires, it is in front of empty stands that the players performed.

A duel that the Saint-Gillois started off with their feet to the ground, determined to take their revenge after their 3-1 defeat in the first leg, the Saint-Gillois’ last setback in this D1B. The free kick from Teuma (8th) grazed the post, Sadin released a reflex on a deflection of Vanzeir on a corner (11th) while the free kick from Nielsen (25th) touched the top of the crossbar.

Cornered during the first half hour, the RWDM managed to step by step on the ball, without however worrying Moris who only had a distant and too soft shot from Dante to capture.

The derby got carried away on the restart. Following a loss of the ball from Libert, Vanzeir isolated Labeau in the box whose strike passed between the legs of Sadin (1-0).

The Union then missed the break and on its first real dangerous action of the match, RWDM came back. A cross from Libert landed on Rocha’s head which left Moris without reaction.

A parity that the Molenbeekois did not have time to savor since three minutes later, Lapoussin returned to the field with the ball, found Nielsen in the depth whose cross strike hit the mark (2-1).

With this victory, the Union consolidates its leadership position and puts the counters tied at the level of the derbies.

After the meeting, the unionist supporters celebrated the victory with a small fireworks display, fired from the wood behind the Stade Marien.
