Daags na tweede plek in Strade Bianche wint Elisa Longo Borghini solo de Trofeo Oro in Euro

Elisa Longo Borghini has capitalized on her top form in the Trofeo Oro in Euro. The day following the Italian champion of Lidl-Trek finished second in Strade Bianche, she managed to win the home race around Cinquale (Tuscany region). She crossed the finish line solo and saw the Dutch Karlijn Swinkels finish second.

The final of the Trofeo Oro in Euro was colored by two climbs of the Fortezza (3.5 km at 5.5%), the last summit of which was just under 14 kilometers from the finish. After the first climb, an elite group of ten riders had emerged, from which Longo Borghini eventually broke away on the final climb. She then held on well to the finish line.

More than half a minute later, Swinkels, competing for UAE Team ADQ, sprinted to second place in this one-day race at UCI 1.1 level. Third place went to Ruth Edwards (aka Ruth Winder) of Human Powered Health.

Longo Borghini’s form is excellent, as evidenced by her three most recent results. Last week she finished third in the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, following which she finished second in Strade Bianche on Saturday. There, only world champion Lotte Kopecky turned out to be better than the Italian, who achieved her first victory of 2024 in the Trofeo Oro in Euro.
