The reason ? It is very simple: David Clarinval will replace his Spanish counterpart, Luis Planas, who is retained in Madrid. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez was reappointed this Thursday by Parliament for a new mandate at the head of the Spanish government. This Monday, the new government will be established. Too late for the future Minister of Agriculture to be able to go to Brussels. Consequently, David Clarinval will be the first federal government minister to chair the Council.

The agenda of this AgriFish Council includes the progress of the proposal relating to new genomic techniques (NGT), the progress of the implementation of the new European Union strategy for forests for 2030 or even conclusions on a long-term vision for rural areas in Europe.
During its European presidency, Belgium will try to advance Europe in several areas: agriculture, European competitiveness, social cohesion, asylum and migration or the enlargement of the Union. Belgian ministers will chair no less than 2,000 meetings.
