Coast Guard has recovered 41 dead bodies from Tunisian waters. A National Guard official said this information on Friday.

The official said that in the last 10 days, the bodies of 210 people were recovered from the sunken migrant ships off the coast of the country. The recovery of so many dead bodies in such a short time is unprecedented.

The official, Hussem Edin Zebali, said the bodies were in a state of decomposition, indicating they had been in the water for several days.

Illegal migrants try to enter Western Europe through the Mediterranean Sea. Most of them are citizens of sub-Saharan Africa, Syria and Sudan. Sea crossings from Tunisia to Europe have increased in recent months due to intensified coastguard operations off the Libyan coast.
