Eighteen people were killed on Friday by South African police in a shootout in the province of Limpopo (northeast), the police claiming to have targeted suspects who wanted to steal a cash transport vehicle. “As soon as the police approached, the group of suspects started shooting and the police fired back. Sixteen men and two women died on the spot,” the police said in a statement.
