An important figure in the history of AS Monaco is dead. Pierre Tournier died on the Côte d’Azur at the age of 88. He directed the Principality’s club training center between 1982 and 1989, being notably at the origin of the outbreak of Emmanuel Petit and Lilian Thuram, then led the recruitment of young people from the ASM until 1997, helping to attract Thierry Henry, among other things.
Tournier had previously been a player in the 1950s and 1960s, as a midfielder. He had totaled more than 400 matches under the colors of Belfort, Sochaux, Montpellier, Marseille, Troyes and Rouen. After his retirement, his retraining began on the bench of Saint-Malo, Rouen and then the Sochaux reserve.
