2023-09-18 08:59:03

The “Monument to the Belgian pioneers in the Congo”, erected in 1921 in memory of the explorers, Belgian soldiers and missionaries who participated in the colonization of the Congo, was vandalized on Friday followingnoon, reports Sudinfo. An individual climbed on the monument and sprayed it with red paint, symbolizing the blood that Belgium has on its hands.

The mayor of Etterbeek Vincent De Wolf (MR) deplored the act of vandalism, considering it unjustifiable. Built of French stone, the red paint will be difficult to remove from the monument, he said.
