Delhi Shooting: Lawrence Bishnoi Advocate in Car During Kashmere Gate Attack

by Omar El Sayed - World Editor

Multiple shots were fired at a car in Delhi’s Kashmiri Gate area late Tuesday night, injuring one person and prompting a police investigation. A man who identified himself as an advocate representing alleged gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, according to police reports. The incident, which occurred near the Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) Kashmiri Gate around 10:30 pm, is currently under investigation, with authorities examining CCTV footage and collecting statements from those involved.

Sandeep, one of five occupants in the car, sustained a bullet injury to the shoulder and is reported to be in stable condition. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North Raja Banthia confirmed that Deepak Khatri, who claims to represent Bishnoi, was also in the car. However, authorities are currently verifying Khatri’s claims. The incident raises questions about potential threats against those associated with the high-profile gangster, currently incarcerated on multiple charges.

Details of the Shooting

According to initial police reports, unidentified assailants on a scooter opened fire on the Ciaz vehicle. Joint Commissioner of Police (CP) Madhur Verma stated that the occupants of the car reported hearing several rounds fired. Following the shooting, the individuals in the car fled towards a nearby bus stand for safety. A forensics team has been dispatched to the scene to gather evidence, and CCTV footage is being analyzed to identify the perpetrators.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Deepak Khatri’s wife, Rajni Khatri, is the legal counsel for Lawrence Bishnoi. Sandeep, the injured passenger, is employed by a non-governmental organization (NGO). Police are investigating whether the shooting was a targeted attack and are exploring all possible motives.

Bishnoi’s Legal Battles and Potential Threats

Lawrence Bishnoi, a notorious figure in Indian organized crime, faces numerous charges, including murder and extortion. He is currently in custody, and his legal cases have attracted significant media attention. The alleged threats against Khatri, reportedly from terrorist Shahzad Bhatti, are being taken seriously by authorities. Verma stated that Khatri had reported receiving threats, and police are investigating the veracity of these claims. ANI News reported on these reported threats.

The incident comes amid a broader pattern of violence linked to Bishnoi’s gang, which has been implicated in several high-profile crimes across North India. In a separate incident, a man was ambushed and shot dead outside his home in Greater Noida, an event captured on CCTV, highlighting the escalating violence in the region. Hindustan Times reported on this separate incident.

A passenger who witnessed the aftermath of the shooting described the scene, stating that shots were fired immediately after the car started, leading to Sandeep’s injury. “We had just arrive out of a temple around 10.15 pm… We had just entered my car and had started it when three shots were fired at us,” the passenger recounted, as reported by The News Mill.

Next Steps in the Investigation

Delhi Police have registered a case and are pursuing multiple leads in the investigation. Authorities are collecting detailed statements from all occupants of the car and local witnesses. The analysis of CCTV footage is expected to provide crucial clues about the identity of the assailants and their motive. The police are also investigating potential connections between the shooting and Bishnoi’s ongoing legal battles and alleged gang activities.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released any information about potential suspects or a definitive motive. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses and more evidence is gathered. The incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing organized crime and ensuring the safety of individuals associated with high-profile criminal cases.
