Delta and Mu variants have been detected in Haiti, announces the Ministry of Public Health

MSPP press release

Thursday September 16, 2021 ((rezonodwes.com)) –

The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) informs the public that two new variants of Covid-19 have been detected on Haitian territory by the national laboratory network. These are the Delta and Mu variants.

The Delta variant is very contagious and spreads quickly to the lungs and other organs of the body. Unvaccinated people are more likely to be infected with these new strains and develop serious forms of them, while those who are vaccinated are generally protected. Children are not spared. In addition, the MU variant already present in several countries also remains a concern at the national level.

Given the high contagiousness of these new variants, the MSPP recommends that the population continue to strictly apply the recommended barrier measures, namely:

1.- Wearing a mask,
2.- Systematic hand washing
3.- The obligatory temperature measurement before entering public spaces,
4.- Respect for physical distancing, at least 1.50 meters apart between each person, especially during face-to-face meetings.

The MSPP asks anyone aged 18 and over, particularly health personnel and people with co-morbidities, to be vaccinated at the sites set up for this purpose. Vaccination remains one of the effective means of controlling the pandemic and preventing the disease and / or its severe forms.

The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) relies on everyone’s sense of responsibility in order to limit, as much as possible, the spread of Covid-19 and to reduce its harmful consequences on the Haitian population.
