The demolition of the former Rayon de Soleil hospital in Montigny-le-Tilleul is approaching. The managers of the HUmani intercommunal association, which succeeds the ISPPC (Intercommunal public health association of the country of Charleroi) and the AIHSHSN (Intercommunal hospital association of Sud-Hainaut and Sud-Namurois) confirmed this on Friday while They discussed the projects of the new entity.
Among these projects is the construction of a new André Vésale hospital in Montigny-le-Tilleul. The future establishment is supposed to be erected in place of the former Rayon de Soleil hospital as an extension of the current André Vésale hospital, which will be maintained and with which moreover a “functional architectural link” will be created, indicated Michel Dorigatti, president of the HUmani management committee.
The Rayon de Soleil hospital ceased all activity in the mid-1980s, notably for reasons of hospital overcapacity. Equipped with cutting-edge equipment, it only operated for 18 years. Which earned him the unenviable label of “useless work”. But his story doesn’t end there. Indeed, a few years later, the building was at the center of a fictitious sale, as was judged by the courts, condemning at the same time a socialist leader of the time, Richard Carlier.

Since then, the old hospital has deteriorated significantly and offers a lackluster showcase for the site.
Among its other projects, the HUmani intermunicipal association also mentioned the construction of a new hospital dedicated to mental health in Farciennes or the renovation and extension of the Chimay hospital. These projects were submitted to Aviq (Agency for Quality Life) a few weeks ago as part of the second hospital infrastructure construction plan 2024-2028.
