On May 7, the Place des Nations was to be the playground of the Immortal Regiment, a rally singing the past – but also present – glory of the Russian army. Caught up in the controversy, this pro-Putin demonstration was aborted at the last minute by the organizers. The next day, Sunday, May 8, it finally gives way to a pacifist rally which had precisely been organized in reaction to the parade of the Immortal Regiment.
