Abu Dhabi: Taliban authorities stopped 100 female students who were leaving for Dubai following receiving a scholarship for higher education. Those who got admission in various universities in UAE through scholarship were not given permission to travel.

Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, founder chairman of Alhabtoor Group sponsored the students’ education, accommodation, travel and health insurance. He vehemently protested the detention of the female students. A female student said in a voice message that she was detained even though she was male.

After women were banned from high school and university education, many sought higher education in foreign countries. But Afghan women are allowed to travel abroad only if they have male support such as husband, father, brother. At the same time, the Taliban administration has not responded regarding the denial of travel.
