Dentsu to Sell Tokyo Building for $190M Amid Financial Strain | Property News

Mitsubishi Estate has acquired a Tokyo office building from Dentsu Group, with the advertising agency anticipating a profit of approximately 29.6 billion yen ($190 million) from the sale, according to reports confirmed February 27, 2026.

The building, the Dentsu Ginza Building completed in 1933, is being sold as Dentsu Group navigates financial challenges. The sale comes after previous attempts to divest its international business faltered, with potential buyers including Apollo and Bain Capital withdrawing from negotiations, as reported in January 2026. Bain Capital was reportedly still interested, but held “significant reservations” regarding a deal, according to a person close to the process.

Dentsu’s shares fell 11% in Tokyo following reports of the stalled international business sale, valuing the advertising group at approximately ¥835 billion ($5.3 billion). The company maintains It’s “rebuilding the international business, which is the top priority” and actively exploring “strategic alternatives, including comprehensive and strategic partnerships,” according to a statement released to Campaign Asia-Pacific.

Mitsubishi Estate’s acquisition of the Dentsu Ginza Building is the latest in a series of strategic moves by the real estate firm. In January 2016, Mitsubishi Estate partnered with Dentsu to launch a co-working space for financial technology companies, FINOLAB, in Tokyo’s Otemachi-Marunouchi business district. The two companies also collaborated in 2024 to establish Dentsu Soken, formerly Information Services International-Dentsu, as a joint venture with U.S.-based General Electric Company.

Mitsubishi Estate has set sustainability goals for 2030, and the acquisition aligns with its broader business strategy. Dentsu has not commented on the specific terms of the sale beyond acknowledging the anticipated profit.
