Deprived of Russian tourists, the Swiss hotel industry is losing luxury customers

Despite its 146 million inhabitants, Russia is not at the top of the most important countries for Swiss tourism. Far behind Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States or even France, the Russian market represented in 2019, before the pandemic, only around 1% (360,000 overnight stays) of the total volume of overnight stays in France. Swiss hotel industry and was not even among the top 15 visiting countries. However, this clientele contributes to the bargains of the luxury market in several large cities of the country or in certain well-frequented upscale resorts.
