A week later, the Maggiatal region of Ticino, Switzerland, was hit by a storm that killed six people and faced the threat of a new round of heavy rainfall. Police reports said authorities wanted to move residents of particularly dangerous areas of the Barwen Valley to safety, but 12 people rejected the offer. Only nine people were evacuated by helicopter. Nine others live in the town of San Carlo at the end of the valley, where there is no risk of landslides.
