Detention of Second Vicar of Matagalpa Cathedral: Nicaraguan Priest Imprisoned by Regime

The second vicar of Matagalpa Cathedral, Fr Jader Guido, was detained for 12 hours by the Nicaraguan dictatorship following prayers were raised by Mons. Rolando Alvarez at the December 24 Mass.

He newspaper La Prensa reported that the priest was detained following the 10 a.m. Eucharist, on the fourth Sunday of Advent, which he offered “in prayer for our bishop, Mons. Rolando, for all the priests, men and women religious of our Diocese.”

Mons. Rolando Álvarez, Bishop of Matagalpa, has been imprisoned since February 10, 2023, when the regime of Daniel Ortega and his vice president and wife Rosario Murillo, sentenced the prelate to more than 26 years in prison, accused of “traitor to Homeland”.
