KABUL: The death toll from a powerful earthquake in western Afghanistan has exceeded 4,000. About 2,000 houses were completely destroyed. The figures released by the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority show the horror of the earthquake.

An earthquake was felt in Afghanistan’s Herat province and nearby areas on Saturday followingnoon. Around a thousand rescue workers are coordinating the rescue operations in the disaster-affected areas. On Sunday, China handed over US$200,000 to the Afghan Red Crescent for relief efforts.
