Now no one can call without knowing. Member of Parliament Khalid Al Otaibi proposed to develop caller identification system in Kuwait. This is a system where the name of the caller is displayed on the screen even if the recipient of the incoming call is not named in the contact. This system is to prevent spam calls and fraud calls.

Khalid Al-Otaibi asked that the instructions regarding this should be given to the telecommunication companies. The Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority should investigate fraud involving SIM cards issued by telecommunication companies in the country. He also demanded that ‘CITRA’ submit a report to the Minister specifying the steps taken in this regard within three months of approval of the proposal.

Earlier, caller identification was available through apps like TrueCaller. But the app was stopped in Kuwait following it was found to be an invasion of privacy by displaying the user’s name. Truecaller is powered by crowd-sourced data. But Khalid Al Otaibi suggests caller ID as per KYC.
