After months of anticipation, the city of Dijon is thrilled to announce the opening of its iconic Beach season. Starting June 21 until August 31, 2025, Dijon Plage promises an exciting line-up of new activities, historic tributes, and community engagement efforts.

Swimming and Monitoring Hours

The beach will be open for swimming from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, except for Mondays when it extends to 12 p.m. It’s a golden opportunity for both residents and visitors to enjoy the warm summer days safely.

New Facilities and Activities

This year’s beach activities include a free swimming area with a minor bath zone, a beach volleyball court, and a 3×3 basketball court—perfect for sports enthusiasts. For just 1 €, you can rent deck chairs and parasols for a relaxing day by the lake.

Inauguration and Tributes to Alice Milliat

The season kicks off with the inauguration of Dijon Plage on June 21, coinciding with the unveiling of the Alice Milliat walk. This path, recently renamed in honor of the legendary sportswoman and feminist Alice Milliat, is a poignant tribute to her battle for women’s sport recognition.

Alice Milliat, born in Nantes in 1884 and passed away in Paris in 1957, was a trailblazing figure in sports. As a swimmer, hockey player, and French rower, she co-founded and led the Federation of Women’s Sports Societies in France, becoming a leading advocate for gender equality in sports globally.

Alice Milliat Exhibition

Throughout the duration of Dijon Plage, an Alice Milliat exhibition will be on display, highlighting her remarkable achievements and the broader context of women’s sports. This exhibition promises deep insights into the history of female sports, the role of media, and feminism’s impact.

Weekly Concerts

Every Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Dijon Plage will host a series of concerts, featuring notable acts such as Cyprian, Habanero Sugar Club, Withered Flowers, and Jazz at the Beach.catch these live performances every Friday evening.

Stand-Up Paddle and Nautical Base

For those eager to explore the waters, supervised stand-up paddle sessions are available every Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the nautical base. Paddle rentals can be arranged daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for just 10 € per hour, with conditions for rentals requiring participants to be at least 8 years old, accompanied by an adult, and holding a certification of success in nautical activities.

Dijon Sport Découverte Summer Activities

Thanks to the Dijon Sport Découverte program, locals can participate in a variety of sports, including canoeing, rowing, stand-up paddle, laser biathlon, multisport nautical, natural raid, and optimist sailing, available for both children and adults. Registration details can be found on the official eservices.dijon.fr site.

Community Engagement and Future Plans

The new nautical base has been designed not only as a training center but also as a community hub. State-of-the-art facilities, secure locker rooms for activities like running, and permanent markings around Lake Kir are just a few of the new features. Additionally, there are free loans of books and journals through the municipal library.

Dijon Plage is set to become a model for future community engagements, blending recreation, education, and historical recognition. This initiative underscores the commitment of both Dijon and Plombières-les-Dijon in honoring the legacy of Alice Milliat while fostering an inclusive and vibrant community.
