Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) have been disqualified from the United States Grand Prix. Their cars failed post-race inspections.
Hamilton finished 2nd behind Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in Austin, while Leclerc finished 6th. Both drivers had those results overturned following a technical team found excessive wear on their cars’ floors.
In a statement, the FIA said Mercedes and Ferrari had acknowledged the findings of the inspection report on the irregularities found, which they said were likely attributable to the bumpy track and the tight time frame between Saturday and Sunday’s races. He “Competitors are responsible for ensuring that the car complies with the rules throughout the competition“, recalled the FIA.
With the disqualification of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris (McLaren) rose to 2nd place while Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), who had ranked 4th, now occupies 3rd place.
