Do video games have an impact on well-being? The prestigious University of Oxford finally answers the question

A study conducted by the prestigious Oxford University has shown that playing video games has no effect (positive or negative) on well-being.

In Charleroi, the Quai10 gaming area offers discovery courses for young people. When the latter play, they feel all kinds of emotions, from joy to anger.

The results of the Oxford University study affirm that the consequences of these gambling assignments have no impact on daily life, regardless of the emotions provoked. There is not enough data to objectify it.

We will each have a different experience of the same game. That is to say that if three people play the same game, it is very likely that they will have a different experience of the game. It is linked to our personal stories, the experiences we have had, our state of mind when we play and also what we are looking for when playing”explains Gaël Gilson, scientific collaborator at UCLouvain.

A real social impact

In society, on the other hand, video games do have an impact: they fuel discussions and create debates.

From the moment the same game can put us all in different situations and emotions, the discussions we can have around the same game are all the richer. That’s how the game creates a bond: it creates debate and forces discussion between players”adds Gael Gilson.
