In the last 24 hours, 16 more people died in Venezuela from COVID-19, bringing the total death toll since the start of the pandemic to 3,940, according to Communication Minister Freddy Ñáñez.

Among those killed were four people from Caracas and two from Miranda state, which is home to a large part of the capital’s metropolitan area, Ñáñez detailed in the government’s daily report published on his Twitter account.

The list is completed by three people from Barinas, two from Mérida, two from Sucre, two from Táchira and one from Anzoátegui.

On the other hand, the minister reported that, in the last 24 hours, the authorities detected 1,100 new infections, all of them by community transmission.

After these 1,100 cases, Venezuela reached a total of 328,550 confirmed infections since the start of the pandemic, although 314,367 patients have already recovered from COVID-19, representing 96% of the total.
