RIO DE JANEIRO: The Brazil national team, which is struggling to maintain consistency following the World Cup in Qatar, has a promising new coach. Sao Paulo FC head coach Darival Jr. takes up the new role. It is reported that Dorival has accepted Brazil’s invitation. Interim coach Fernando Denis was sacked yesterday following poor performance.

The club announced in a statement that Dorival Jr. has resigned as head coach of Sao Paulo to take charge of the national team. He has also won the Brazilian Cup along with Sao Paulo, Flamengo and Santos FC. The main challenge for the new coach is the Copa America which will be held in June this year. Preparing the team ahead of this is a tough task.

Dinis came to the coaching position following Tite resigned following the World Cup. Dinis, who took office last July, might not live up to expectations. Brazil managed just two wins in six months of training. They lost at home to Argentina in November. They had suffered three consecutive defeats in the World Cup qualifiers. Then the Brazilian Football Federation tried to bring a foreign coach. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was targeted. But recently, with the Italian coach renewing his contract with Spanish club Real Madrid for two more years, the coach was found from Brazil.
