DRC-ADF: Another twenty civilians beheaded in new violence near Mamove

Once again, at least 20 people were beheaded in simultaneous attacks by ADF fighters on Tuesday, July 23, in the villages of Katerain, Kota Okola, and Nzakiya, located near Mamove, in the territory of Beni (North Kivu). This toll was confirmed to ACTUALITÉ.CD by the sector chief of Beni-Mbau, who spoke of “a provisional toll.”

According to Leon Sivirwa, the first attack took place at 10am local time in the village of Katerain. Most of the victims were killed while they were engaged in farming.

“During the day we had a provisional toll of 14 dead but the killings continued into the evening, which leads us to say that this toll may have been revised upwards,” said Léon Siviwa, head of the Beni-Mbau sector.

On Wednesday, several villagers mobilized to search the attacked villages. 19 bodies were found, including two women, and were deposited this evening at the Oicha morgue.

“Several of the victims’ bodies are detached from their heads,” Kakule Sekera, head of the morgue, told ACTUALITÉ.CD.

Violence has become recurrent in the Mamove area. A few days ago, around twenty people were killed in villages near Mamove.
