DRC-Election of senators and governors: The CENI reserves the right to take legal action for acts of corruption

Kinshasa, February 28, 2024 – While receiving candidate files for the election of senators, governors and vice-governors, the CENI announced this Tuesday, February 28 that it had been informed of acts of corruption by the candidates on the one hand and voters, in this case provincial deputies on the other hand.

Through a press release signed by the rapporteur of this democracy support institution, the CENI maintains that this act punishable by the penal code exposes its perpetrators to legal proceedings.

“The CENI reminds everyone that corruption is a reprehensible act and an offense provided for and condemned in the Congolese penal code. Anyone who engages in this is exposed to legal action.”warns the CENI.

Therefore, the electoral center argues that it reserves the right to take legal action with a view to investigations and possible exemplary sanctions once morest all those cited.

However, the CENI invites everyone to healthy, fair competition, devoid of any form of corruption and fraud.

Note that the election of senators is set for March 31 while that of governors and vice-governors is scheduled for April 7 of the current year.

As a reminder, 81 national and provincial deputy candidates were invalidated by the CENI for the same facts.
