“Drive for Good: HUK-Coburg’s Eco-Friendly Telematics Program Rewards Better Driving and Donates to Charity”

The more anticipatory the driving style, the better for people and the environment – this is the idea behind the HUK-Coburg Eco Drive program. In the “Mein Auto” app, telematics customers of Germany’s largest motor vehicle insurer can not only see how environmentally friendly they are on the road, but also do good. Last year, more than 850,000 euros were collected for a good cause via the associated bonus system. The company has now donated this amount to the three partner organizations Primaklima, the Björn-Steiger-Foundation and the Tafel Deutschland.

The driving style of telematics customers is evaluated using data such as speed, acceleration and route characteristics, which are collected using a sensor in combination with an app. A correspondingly environmentally friendly driving style is rewarded with points, symbolized by leaves. At the end of each year, the points collected are converted into a sum of money and donated by HUK-Coburg. This time it was around 100,000 euros more than the year before. (awm)
