Sampati is the brother of Jatayu, the king of birds and the friend of King Dasaratha Maharaja of Ayodhya. When both of them were young adults, Ahankaram flew up to the sky one day to test his strength and speed. Fearing that Jatayu’s wings would catch fire due to the heat of the sun, Sampathi, who was flying just above him for cover, had his wings spread and fell down.
