Easter traffic on the Gotthard: traffic jams in the north are getting longer and longer – one hour waiting time

The wave of travel to the south reached its highest point on Good Friday today: 22 kilometers of traffic jams in front of the Gotthard tunnel to the south. Only in 1998 did you need even more patience at the Gotthard. At that time, the 25-kilometer traffic jam was mainly caused by a sudden onset of winter, which led to chaotic conditions on the road.

As Viasuisse writes in its message, the traffic jam never completely cleared up from Thursday to Friday, but only shrank to a minimum of at least 8 kilometers in length. From the early morning hours of Good Friday, the avalanche grew steadily until the early followingnoon, before the situation eased somewhat.
