EDMONTON, Alta. – Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins were the only scorers in the shootout, and the Edmonton Oilers barely defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4 to 2 on Tuesday.

The Oilers collected two points in the standings despite a moment of confusion in the final stretch of the match.

Two Knights support players scored in the last seven minutes of the third period to tie the game at Rogers Place.

Ben Hutton and Keegan Kolesar, the latter at 17:52, took turns beating Stuart Skinner to bring the score to 4-4 when we thought the Albertans were well in the saddle.

In addition to scoring once morest Logan Thompson as his club’s first shooter in the play-off, McDavid also had three points (1-2) in regulation.

Sam Gagner, Mattias Janmark and Evander Kane also hit the target for Edmonton (8-12-1), which continues its climb in the standings with a third consecutive victory.

Vegas (14-5-4) lost a second consecutive game in overtime, following losing 2 to 1 in overtime in Calgary the day before.

Mark Stone and Michael Amadio also fooled Skinner, who faced 27 shots, seven fewer than Thompson.
