To counter this illegal tactic, customs took fuel and checked its color using a special marker and red dye. But faced with the ingenuity of fraudsters, customs have decided to implement a new means of detection, informs RTL.
A new marker is now applicable throughout the European Union. “We are in a transitional phase. Currently, we can use the old marker and the new one. From January 19, 2024, only the new one can be used in Belgium. For the moment, we are doing an analysis on all the samples,” explains Inge Vinckier, director of the Belgian customs laboratory.
