Egypt.. A new decision from the Ministry of Supply regarding controlling sugar prices

Egypt – The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in Egypt announced yesterday, Thursday, a contract to purchase large quantities of imported raw sugar to enhance the country’s reserves of it.

The Ministry contracted to purchase 500,000 tons of sugar, in parallel with the continued production of local sugar from beets and the production of the Sugar and Integrated Industries Company affiliated with the Ministry and putting it on the market.

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade continues to offer white sugar in consumer mall outlets and showrooms at reduced prices at 27 pounds per kilo from ration outlets, provided that only 2 kilos are dispensed per person, in addition to continuing to provide subsidized sugar on ration cards at a price of 12.6 pounds per kilo as part of ration options.

It is worth noting that the Minister of Supply, Ali Al-Moselhi, had issued a decision under No. 16 of 2024 regarding the trading of free sugar in the markets, and that the trading of any available quantities and stocks of free sugar should be limited to a price of 27 pounds per kilo, whether in the branches of the “general” and “Egyptian” wholesale companies, or any other. Other balances are available at bottling factories to maintain their disbursement and distribution under smart ration cards to citizens when disbursing rations at the same prices and quantities stipulated in Ministerial Directive No. 31 of 2024.
