McCaul, chairman of the influential U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, revealed today that Israel received a warning from Egypt regarding possible violence three days before it was caught off guard by the Palestinian Islamist radical movement Hamas and launched a large-scale raid.

“We understand that Egypt warned Israel three days ago that this type of incident might occur,” Michael McCaul told reporters following lawmakers received a closed-door briefing on the crisis.
“I don’t want to say too much regarding the classified content, but there were warnings. I think the question is to what extent.”
McCaul noted that Hamas may have been planning the attack for up to a year.
“We’re not sure how we didn’t notice it. We’re not sure how Israel didn’t notice it.” (Central News Agency, Washington, 11th)
