Egyptian-Greek rejection of Dabaiba agreements with Turkey on the energy and gas file

Egypt and Greece doubted that the Dabaiba government in Libya had signed energy, gas and oil exploration agreements with Turkey, and the two countries agreed to coordinate between them to respond to these actions.

The official spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, stated that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received today, Monday, a phone call from Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, in which they discussed the latest developments in bilateral relations and regional issues, foremost of which are the developments of the Libyan file.

The two sides stressed that the outgoing “unity government” in Tripoli does not have the authority to conclude any international agreements or memoranda of understanding.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman added that the two ministers agreed to continue consultation between them on various regional and international issues of common interest within the framework of continuous coordination between the two countries.

Today, the Dabaiba government concluded new agreements with Turkey in the energy and gas files.

Dabaiba said in a statement today that he discussed, in his capacity as Minister of Defense, with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, the military cooperation between the two countries, a number of training programs for the Libyan army, and the provision of a set of advanced equipment to a number of the army’s general staff.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said he discussed steps for a political solution and joint relations with Dabaiba, announcing the signing of an agreement for potential energy exploration in offshore areas, and a memorandum of understanding in protocol cooperation, hydrocarbons, gas and oil investment.

During the press conference with Najla Al-Manqoush, Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Dabaiba government, Oglu said that the agreements related to oil and gas exploration between his country and Libya include the rights of both countries to the resources of the Mediterranean, stressing that these rights must be exploited.

He stressed that the memoranda of understanding concluded between the two countries are a matter of two sovereign countries, stressing that no other countries have the right to interfere or express their opinion in such matters, considering that the security and military memorandum of understanding is important for the stability of Libya.
