Eid’l Fitr 2024: Holiday Pay, Rules & MMDA Number Coding Suspension | Philippines

Manila, Philippines – As the nation prepares to observe Eid’l Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has released guidelines regarding holiday pay, while the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced a suspension of the number coding scheme. These measures aim to facilitate celebrations for Filipino Muslims and ease traffic congestion during the long weekend.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Previously declared March 20, 2026, a regular non-working holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Fitr, as confirmed by the Presidential Communications Office. This declaration triggers specific rules regarding compensation for workers, as outlined by the DOLE. The MMDA’s decision to suspend the number coding scheme further eases travel plans for residents of Metro Manila.

Holiday Pay Rules for Eid’l Fitr

According to Labor Advisory No. 04-26, workers who report for work on March 20, 2026, will receive their regular daily wage plus an additional 30% of their wage for working on a regular holiday. Those who work in excess of eight hours will be entitled to an additional 30% of their hourly rate for each hour worked. Employees who do not report for work on the holiday will not be paid, unless otherwise provided in their employment contract or collective bargaining agreement. More details on the DOLE’s guidelines can be found on their official website: https://dole.gov.ph/news/labor-advisory-no-04-26-payment-of-wages-for-the-regular-holiday-on-20-march-2026-eidl-fitr/

MMDA Suspends Number Coding Scheme

The MMDA announced the suspension of its expanded number coding scheme on Friday, March 20, 2026, in line with the Eid’l Fitr holiday. Which means vehicles will not be restricted from certain roads based on the last digit of their license plates. The suspension applies to the expanded number coding scheme currently in effect in Metro Manila. The Manila Times reported the MMDA’s advisory on Wednesday.

Authorities are urging motorists to plan their trips in advance, anticipating increased traffic volume during the long weekend. The MMDA too reminded drivers to observe road safety measures to prevent accidents and ensure a smooth flow of traffic. The Daily Tribune noted the MMDA’s call for cautious driving during the holiday period.

The suspension of the number coding scheme also comes after Malacañang’s declaration of March 20 as a regular holiday, automatically triggering the suspension as per MMDA policy. DZRH News confirmed this automatic suspension policy.

Muslims in the Philippines traditionally celebrate Eid’l Fitr with family prayers and festive activities, marking the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan. The MMDA’s actions, alongside the DOLE’s guidance, aim to support these celebrations and ensure a safe and convenient holiday for all.

As the long weekend approaches, travelers are encouraged to remain vigilant and prioritize safety while enjoying the festivities. The MMDA will continue to monitor traffic conditions and deploy traffic enforcers to manage the expected increase in vehicular volume. Further updates and advisories will be released as needed.
