Elections 2023: Weretilneck prevailed in Río Negro and is the new governor

2023-04-17 02:33:37

The national senator and candidate for the ruling party Juntos Somos Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck, won tonight with 37% of the votes in the province’s gubernatorial elections, with 86% of the polling stations counted, according to official data.

Weretilneck added the votes of Juntos Somos Río Negro and the collector Nos Une Río Negro, to achieve victory in his province.

In second place was Aníbal Tortoriello (Cambia Río Negro) with 22.35%; followed by Silvia Horne (Vamos con Todos) with 10%; and in fourth place was Ariel Rivero (First Río Negro) with 8%.

The percentage of participation barely exceeded 60%.

“To those who accepted this proposal to leave differences behind and thank Martín Doñate, Río Negro unites us,” said Weretilneck, following 10 p.m., who also highlighted the radicalism that supported him to achieve the agreement that brings him back to the governorate of the province.

Thus, he will succeed Arabela Carreras in office, who last night highlighted the senator’s triumph.

“Clearly we have an elected governor, the people ratify us and put our leader, Alberto Weretilneck, back in the governorship,” he said.

“Weretilneck has the opportunity to govern by improving what we have not been able to do and proposing for the future,” added the president.

Although in Río Negro the elections began with some delays, following the authorization of its 1,785 polling stations, where 589,251 people were authorized to elect governor and lieutenant governor, everything went smoothly.

In the elections that closed at 6:00 p.m. this Sunday and from which the first counts are expected, 46 seats of the Legislature and the new mayors in 22 municipal mayoralties are also elected.

Río Negro is one of the 17 jurisdictions that chose to split their national elections, which will hold primaries on August 13 and general elections on October 22 of this year.

The candidates for governor of the elections that took place this Sunday in Río Negro highlighted the “homage to democracy” that the elections imply and warned that “it is time to pacify, listen and dialogue.”
