The Ministry of Energy and Water announced yesterday that it is extending until August 31 the deadline for submitting applications as part of the recruitment process for the Electricity Regulatory Authority, initially launched on December 9.
According to the ministry, this decision was taken in view of the fact that the “applications currently submitted are not sufficient” to fill all the positions and “all the skills” and following the recommendations of the Medreg organization, which represents the regulatory bodies in several Mediterranean countries.
The Electricity Sector Regulatory Authority is a key body whose formation has been overdue for years. Its establishment represents a first step towards the final step towards the release of World Bank (WB) financing for regional gas and electric power import agreements aimed at reducing electricity shortages in Lebanon.
