Electronic Arts will no longer support five Need for Speed games. Arcade racing simulators have already begun to be removed from sale, and by the fall of 2021, developers will shut down servers for online games.
The decision concerned Need for Speed Carbon, Undercover, Shift, Shift 2 Unleashed and The Run. EA representatives said that it would be disadvantageous to maintain the online services of these games due to the decreased online. The company uses the freed up resources to develop the series.
These parts of Need for Speed will disappear from digital stores until the end of May 31st. Online services will be shut down on August 31. After that, title owners will only be able to play offline.
Need for Speed Carbon was released in 2006, and Shift 2 Unleashed and The Run in 2011. The last part of the series so far was Heat, which was released in November 2019. In addition, Electronic Arts released the NFS Hot Pursuit remaster in November 2020.
