Elon Musk Debunks Claims: Starlink Satellite System Uninvolved in Military Operations in Crimea

2023-09-09 04:37:00

Entrepreneur Elon Musk did not connect the Starlink satellite system to the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Crimea region, since it was initially agreed that the satellites would not be used for attacks on civilian infrastructure. The founder of SpaceX wrote regarding this on social networks.

“The terms of service prohibit the use of Starlink in offensive military operations, as we are a civilian system, so they [ВСУ] once more they asked for something that was prohibited,” Elon Musk wrote on his X (Twitter) account. He added that no one from SpaceX promised Ukraine to cover the territories bordering Crimea with the Starlink satellite network.

After publication biographies of Elon Musk American journalist Walter Isaacson reported that the entrepreneur thwarted Ukraine’s attack on the Russian Navy in 2022 by secretly ordering his engineers to disable Starlink satellite communications near the coast of Crimea. However, Musk later emphasized that in fact did not disrupt the attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, since Starlink was not initially connected in this area. And when Ukraine asked the entrepreneur to correct this, they were refused.
