Emergency Hospitalizations of Athletes in Sochi Sanatorium Linked to Pool Contamination: Latest News and Updates

Moscow. August 17th. INTERFAX.RU – Emergency doctors of the Lazarevsky district of Sochi hospitalized a group of athletes who, following swimming in the Avrora sanatorium, felt weak and unwell, Rospotrebnadzor told Interfax on Thursday.

“A group of athletes arrived from Moscow to the Avrora sanatorium in the Lazarevsky district from Moscow: 14 children and 7 accompanying coaches. They visited the sauna and swimming pool. After that, they complained of coughing, malaise and weakness,” said a representative of Rospotrebnadzor.

According to him, three ambulance teams were called to the sanatorium.

“10 people were hospitalized by ambulance,” – said the representative of the department.

He also stated that, in turn, Rospotrebnadzor employees took water samples from two pools, and sent information regarding the emergency to the prosecutor’s office of the Krasnodar Territory.
