Madrid, February 25 / WAM / Real Madrid escaped defeat in the derby of the Spanish capital and snatched a difficult 1-1 draw with its neighbor Atletico Madrid today, “Saturday”, in the 23rd round of the Spanish Football League, which also witnessed today Espanyol’s victory over Real Mallorca 2- 1 and Cadiz beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0.
And at the “Santiago Bernabeu” stadium in the capital, Madrid, Real Madrid failed to continue its victories, and snatched a draw point with difficulty in the derby match, to raise its tally to 52 points in second place, 7 points behind leaders Barcelona, who will visit Almeria tomorrow in another match in the same round.
The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw, and Atletico was the first to score in the second half, despite the numerical shortage in its ranks, following Angel Korea was sent off in the 64th minute.
Atletico took the lead with a goal scored by Jose Maria Jimenez in the 78th minute, but Alvaro Rodriguez scored the equalizer for Real Madrid in the 85th minute.
