Emirates News Agency – Chinese President inaugurates the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party

BEIJING, Oct. 16 (WAM) – Chinese President Xi Jinping inaugurated today in Beijing the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which will last for a week, with 2,300 elected delegates out of more than 95 million party members.

The Chinese Communist Party holds its national congress every five years in the Great Hall of the People in the capital, Beijing.

In his report, President Xi Jinping called on Party members to unite struggle to build a modern socialist China in all fields, and said that the CPC has made historic achievements and witnessed historic changes in the cause of the Party and the state over the past decades.

Presenting key principles in the process of building modern socialist China, the Chinese president said, “From now on, the central task of the Communist Party of China has been to unite with people of all nationalities in all countries and lead them to achieve the building of a strong modern socialist country in an all-round way, and to achieve the goal of struggle to be accomplished when The centenary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China has come, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has been comprehensively promoted by Chinese-style modernization.”

The conference sessions review the work accomplished over the past five years, develop a future plan, and elect a new central leadership.
