Emirates News Agency – International concern over the kidnapping of 50 women in Burkina Faso

New York, January 16, WAM/ The United Nations has expressed its concern regarding the abduction of at least 50 women in Burkina Faso on January 12 and 13, and called for their immediate and unconditional release.
In a statement issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, today, Monday, he expressed his deep concern regarding the kidnapping of dozens of women who went out to search for food for their families in broad daylight, regarding 15 kilometers from the village of Arbinda, located in the Sahel region, describing this behavior. This is the first such attack deliberately targeting women in Burkina Faso.
He called for the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted women, and for an effective, impartial, independent and prompt investigation with the aim of identifying those responsible and holding them accountable.
