Bugonia had its world premiere at the 2025 Venice International Film Festivalwhere the stars of the sci-fi black comedy walked the red carpet for the big celebration.

The film, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, stars Jesse Plemons, Emma Stone, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone.

Based on the South Korean film Save the Green Planet! from Jang Joon-hwan, Bugonia centers around two men (Plemons and Delbis) who kidnap a CEO, played by Stone, on suspicion that she is secretly an alien who wants to destroy Earth.

The film’s title, Bugoniais a Greek word that refers to an ancient Mediterranean belief that bees are generated from the carcasses of dead animals, particularly oxen.

Focus Features holds the global rights to Bugoniawhich is produced by Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe; Yorgos Lanthimos via Pith; Emma Stone via Fruit Tree; Square Peg’s Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen; and CJ ENM’s Miky Lee and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.
