Empowering Cancer Awareness: Together Let’s Challenge Cancer for a Healthier Future

2023-10-27 19:07:00

It was at the Força Real space that the “Together let’s challenge cancer” conference took place in front of an audience attentive to earlier diagnoses and therapeutic advances in the fight once morest the disease.

Doctor Bernard Valentin, doctor in gynecology-obstetrics and surgeon, took stock of the situation, comparing the figures of the P.-O. national figures. Between 1990 and 2023, the number of cancers will double.

The increase and aging of the population partly explain this increase. The rest is linked to the increase in cancer risk factors (alcohol, tobacco including passive smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, etc.). With an increasing incidence and despite a decreasing mortality, cancer is becoming the leading cause of mortality. The floor was then given to Déborah Climent, coordinator at the P.-O cancer center. (Oncopo). She spoke regarding taking into account the human factor in disease. Initiated by Oncopo, a new “head and legs” wellness center for people with cancer has opened its doors in Perpignan. The help of naturopaths, nutritionists, social workers… and sessions of plantar reflexology and facial massage, art therapy, socio-aesthetics, meditation and yoga are set up to help with healing.

“Pink Ribbon” booklets on information to share regarding breast cancer are available at the town hall reception.
